The problem of loosening and falling off of magnesium oxide powder for mineral insulated cable:
December 29, 2023
Due to some reasons, mineral insulated cable have the issues of loosening and falling of magnesium oxide(Mgo) powder, here are some common problems and advise to address the issue for our reference.
1. Manufacturing problem: improper compaction of Mgo powder during the cable producing process will cause loosening, as a manufacturer of mineral insulated cable, we ensure the Mgo powder is uniformly packed and compacted when drawing the cable, it is a basic quality control.
2. Mechanical stress and vibration during operation: If the thermocouple cable is exposed to mechanical stress or vibrations, it can lead the Mgo powder displacement. You need to handle mineral insulated thermocouple cable carefully during installation and avoid subjecting it to excessive bending, twisting or pulling.
When cutting the cable, pls make sure to cut flat, do not cut diagonally.
3. Thermal cycling: The thermocouple cable work in high temperature environments, which will affect the stability and bonding properties of Mgo powder. The differential expansion and contraction between the cable sheath and the MgO powder can cause the powder to loosen over time, High temperature will cause thermal expansion and dehydration of Mgo powder, which will loosening and falling off easily. You need to select thermocouple cables that are designed to withstand the expected temperature range and thermal cyclingwithout compromising the adhesion of the MgO powder, pls refer to our mineral insulated thermocouples’ specifications and technical data.
4.Cable damage or aging: Physical damage to the cable or aging of the insulation can lead to the degradation of the MgO powder's adhesion. You need to regularly inspect the cable for any signs of damage, such as cuts, abrasions, or corrosion. Replace any damaged sections of the cable to maintain the integrity of the MgO powder insulation.
If the problem of MgO powder loosening and falling off persists, it is recommended to consult us, we can provide specific guidance and ensure that the cable is installed and operated correctly to prevent MgO powder displacement.
